Exercise, Sun and Fun









Today was a gorgeous and hot day here. I started this morning with a nice, refreshing grapefruit juice and lounged around. Then we took a 5 mile bike ride along the river. The day was absolutely beautiful and inviting.
I am feeling a little tired from a lack of quality sleep and PMS so I will keep it short. I am loving raw fresh fruit out in the sunshine. It's a heavenly feeling.
I made the onion bread and it was great except that I added too much Bragg's. Next time it will be better.
Food from 7/27/07
watermelon
smoothie: banana, strawberries, raspberries, maca, almond milk
sweet flax crackers with 1/4c pecans
Raw cafe': raw carrot cake
3/4 cacao shake
1 bite of rotten fig
2 bites awful peach
Massive salad: lettuce (red and green leaf), tomato, 1 1/4 avocado, onion
sweet flax bread
watermelon
strawberries at 1 am
Exercise:
upperbody exercise....I felt great afterwards

Give me Raw!

My daughter is such a radiant ray of life...a true crystal child. This picture of us is showcasing the raw glow!!





Yesterday I woke up really wanted to "clean" out.....I ate
Prune water 8oz
prunes (cold)
cherries
watermelon...a hunking piece
HUGE massive salad...lettuce tomato 1.5 avocado olives onion
dressed with lime
lara bar
2 frozen banana ice cream with pecans....yummy way to end the day.
I had the best intention to do yoga, but Kennedy was "backed up". By the time she "released" I was exhausted and read myself to sleep. All in all a good day.
Today I found a raw food cafe' and I felt like I was in heaven. I am excited to have found ANY other raw foodists in this area. I have been visualizing raw food abundance and good things are happening. A friend* got me a wonderful birthday present....RAWvolution by matt amsden. I LOVE it! It's pricey, but worth it. It's gourmet raw, but most things aren't too hard to find. I don't have easy access to raw/vegan foods where I live, but things will get better ( I can see it;)
When I think of the quote "There is always another choice", I am reminded just how easy being raw is. I have been vegan for over 6.5 years and would NEVER consider eating meat. I feel the same way about raw vs. cooked food. I know for most that being 100% isn't optimal/possible, but I have found a way to make it work for me. Everyone has their own process and their own path. It took me 3 years along the raw path...50%, 65% 75% 80% then 100% so I know better than anyone that this is more emotional and psychological than it is merely having raw food to eat! I love V. Butenko's 12 Steps to Raw Foods. I read that about 3 years ago and it still holds true today.
Today is a day that I am craving FITNESS. As Robert Kennedy says I need a taste of my "iron pills". I am doing an upper body workout today with little bit of sporadiac cardio.
I have taken a 2 mile brisk walk along the river and will do....
bicep curls, tricep dips, one armed lat row, pushups, overhead shoulder press and pec flyes. This is going to be a nice way to warm back up into my fitness....oh I can't wait!

Celebrate Everything!



Last nite I made a rendition of Ani Phyo's Mango Cobbler. I made a strawberry one. This is by far the BEST recipe for a dessert I have ever made. We celebrated my husband's accomplishment of finishing the bar exam. But it made me think about something else.... I moved into a space of "celebration" and realized that it doesn't have to be the bar, or a new job, we can celebrate in a BIG way anytime! So today I have an attitude of gratitude where I chose to celebrate everything.

3. My husband finishing the bar

4. My ability to do yoga tonite

5. My inner goddess


Oh my the list could go on and on. I want to remind myself that nothing special has to happen in order to feel grateful... Gratitude is to be felt at all times.

Simplicity and the Cry for Greens














Most raw foodist know that eventually you crave simple meals. I haven't been making really messy combinations per say, but I definitely haven't been combing food all that well. I could feel my body crying for lemon water AND greens so I set out to make my favorite green smoothie. Spinach/banana/strawberries. I actually really packed the spinach down at the bottom...add water and yum yum yum! It's chilling in the fridge and I can't wait to drink it this morning. Yesterday I made Alissa's Date/Nut/Torte with raspberries. This is the easiest possible raw food recipe with only three ingredients (I opt out of teh 1/2 squeezed lemon) and add raspberries..so 4 ingredients I guess.
This leads me to think about something much deeper...our need for simplicity. I feel great when I whip up a HUGE salad with red leaf/kale/tomato/olive and fresh squeezed lime. I do still love to make raw enchiladas/pizza and all the complicated stuff ..there is just real true pleasure in the simple and quick meals.
While reading Anastasia, I am constantly reminded of just how complicated we have made the world with our technology and I am really realizing that THIS is why all the "connected" souls are feeling the urge to go back to a simpler way of life: raw food, growing your own veggies/fruits, spending my time with our kids and less time and money on crappy material possessions. If we can all make this shift, then love will eminate and eventually take over the world.
My daughter reminds me that true beauty is found in the simpliest of activities. She doesn't gravitate toward fancy toys, but rathers notebooks and markers to draw with or boxes and other crafts. She is truly a crystal child and at only 3 times around the sun is far wiser than most give her credit for.
So time for a change...and with that in mind I've been cleaning up and "clearing" out all sorts of things. I have this immense pressure to rid my surrounding of negative people and old material possessions that at one time I thought that by holding onto them, I would be saving some sort of the memory. I now know that the memory is in my heart and soul.

Fun Fitness and Fun Food


Today I woke up thinking about ways to make fitness fun and creating food fun...hummmmm....


As far as fitness goes...


1. I always choose something that I am really interested in to do. I never do any exercise b/c I feel like I have to. I love to rebound, do Turbo Jam, lift weights***, and do Yoga Booty Ballet.


2. Make time for yourself. No matter what is going on, in your set of 24 hrs, you can find 5-10-15-20 mins for fitness...even if it's 100 crunches, a few yoga moves, 20 jumping jacks and 3 pushups!!

As far as food goes...


1. I eat foods that I am really interested in. Now that I"m 100%, I can feel my body telling me what it needs or craves.

2. Make decorative plates of food. I like to garnish my plates and make really pretty presentations, even though I'm the only one in the house eating this way.

3. Get creative. You don't always have to follow a recipe book. Take their ideas and then create your own. Good or bad, you will have had fun.


Raising a toddler/preschooler with Autism is a challenge in and of itself, but she has made me open my eyes to things in this world that I never would have. She's my saving grace. She has reignited my "fun flame" and I am so blessed to God/dess that she's mine ;-)
I believe that we should all embrace every second of every day of life.
"The man who waits until tomorrow to take the first step spends his life on one foot" -Chinese Proverb.
I repeat that proverb all day long to myself. It's almost like a reflex at this point. If I want to procrastinate on anything from my dishes to my thesis, I repeat that proverb. And then somehow, I'm able to get off my butt and move in a fun fashion
Today's food plan:
16oz water
bag cherries
1 orange
1 apple
1 banana with hemp seeds
sweet flax crackers with banana and raspberries
.....................................................................................this is thru lunch
***Sweet Flax Crackers modified from Alissa Cohen's crackers on her Living on Live DVD***
2c flax soaked overnite in 4c water
1c almonds ground into almond flour
1 ripe banana
2 tsps cinnamon
1/2 tbsp vanilla (no alcohol added)
Process in food processor. I like thin crackers so this makes 4 thin dehyrdrator trays.
Flip after 8-10 hrs, finish dehydrating over nite.
Tonite I'll be making one of my green juices (kale, apple, lemon, ginger) yummmmmmm
Note**I blend my kale in the blender and process thru a nutmylk bag so as not to "chew" the kale. My juicer is old and cheap so it doesn't do greens very well.

Walk with Daughter along the river for about 1 hr

Raw Food is Love



This is the first of many blogs I will post here. I am excited to share this journey with any and all who are interested in reading it. Please feel free to email me at any time.


I don't subscribe to any raw-ligion or believe that 100% is the ONLY way this can be done. I was about 60-75% raw for 3 years before now, with a few 100% months thrown in. I believe that everyone is on their own path...


I am committed to the raw food lifestyle and am loving being 100%. This just "fits" for me. I have been vegan for 6 years now and this was a natural progression along my path. I was known as the "cook"...the "baker" and the chef. Well, I am now the "uncooker", "dehydrator chef" and raw goddess that I was meant to be.


When I am preparing raw foods, it seems that MORE love is going into the foods I prepare. Even the simple dishes are crafted with care and love and I am in awe of the end result. As I eat it, I feel the love going down. I share the kitchen with my husband (occasional vegetarian but never beef or chicken) and my daughter who is on the GF/CF vegan diet...whew! There are usually 3 different bkfst, lunches, and dinners.


Today I am eating better than yesterday. I made raw pancakes and devoured them!! They were great, but today I am keeping it a little simpler. For exercise today, I am going to do 40 mins of Yoga Booty Ballet and *maybe* a short lowerbody workout...will update later.


A college friend is coming tomorrow and I am going to introduce her to some raw foods if she's open to the process. If not, I'll plant the seed and it will surely grow one day. It's hard NOT to feel the love vibe in a raw kitchen.
