Days Come and Go

Ay yay yay...

The days are blowing by! I finished the cleanse last week and feel amazing. Some mornings I had oatmeal instead of a smoothie. It was freeeezzzziiinnng here and I just wanted something warm- no biggie.

The biggest thing I did was stop eating after 7 pm! Oh yea. The habit has stuck with me. I feel better in the morning. Hungry. That is why juice isn't seen as a "meal" to me per se, but rather a nutritional requirement like vitamins (1 cuke -or a half- ;1-2 stalks of celery; 1 apple; 1 lemon).

I have been busy finishing up my second master's degree. 5 classes to go. I have been so busy and spending a ton of time with Kennedy- quality mommie/daughter bonding. The usual- hunting for bugs in the cold; cocoa at midnite under the moon; snuggling in bed watching netflix on her itouch.

NO WE DON'T have an ipad ;-). I got an email from a reader saying that i should invest in an ipad for Kay. Uhhh no way dude-o. She has far too many gadgets. Our society always has us wanting more and more of everything. We are thusly convinced that the having of all of it will make things better/easier/faster. Not really. Then when it comes out the next year in pink..we want that one too!--okay maybe I am just describing myself, but now I know better.

I have been doing 15 minute daily workouts. They are sporadic. Some days a weight circuit. Some days just jumprope or the rebounder. The point is to take the tine and vlaue myself enough to do just 15 minutes during the busiest of times!

Here are a few pix of my current daily life

And of course...

Her shirt rocks: Peace love and Autism ;-)

Keep or start pushing on! Today is 2-24-11. Almost 2 months gone in 2011--still 9 left for major change. Pull out your journal and start dreaming: What do you wanna accomplish before 2011 is over with? What steps can get you there?

I love you,

Loving Myself on Valentine's Day 2011

This valentine's day like so many before it, were focused on self-love and loving Kennedy. Ot is amazing to show love for our life partners, but it is equally (if not more) essential to tune into the love frequency for ourselves.

I started by getting up really early and working out. Made a 1.5 quart awesome vegan protein smoothie and journalled.

It really started with taking Kennedy out this weekend. We went to Baltimore! We saw Disney Princesses on Ice. Tiana (Disney's first Black princess was there!!) and we went to our favorite restaurant!

Real life Tiana

"All that jazz"

A unicorn!

Cacao. Almomd milk. Spirilina. Not better than what I make at home

Only a foodie is excited to find health food stores while out of town!

Almond butter for $5!!!! I bought like 4

The black history presentation materials. I went into her 1st grade and did a presentation and had lunch. I bought Kennedy one black rose for lunchtime.

My gift to myself. Well---one of em. ;-)

Yummy lentil loaf. We ate the entire thing!

See the heart shaped bowls????

By candlelight.....

Quinoa pasta with daiya over romaine with tahini dressing

Opening her cards. She also got Micheal Jackson for the Wii and a frog calendar and tons of funny socks.

The dozen of red roses that she got from her dad...awwwww

So, if you had a partner or spent it alone, you are valuable, worthy, and amazing. Remember to show yourself you love her/him everyday.

I am off to drink a green juice!

Love,

Cleansing and Preparing

200 Juices and Smoothies  Amazing recipes....I skip the yogurt additions...but the juices are killer
Care package items for one of my bestest friends over in Iraq...Ain't a gluten free thing in that pile!
And that's NOT all of it.

Appetite for Reduction: 125 Fast and Filling Low-Fat Vegan Recipes
Hmmmmm I made some spicy Cajun "beanballs" from

Okay...I am in the midst of the MOST MAJOR thing to happen in my life (aside from Kay's brain surgery duh) in a long time. It's consuming most of my time...all of my energy....and ....just taking over for now. Bear with me. It's awesome!

The Crazy Sexy Cleanse is rocking. I had a little "situation" with some vegan nachos...but oh well. Also, I haven't been juicing much, but rather doing green smoothies in the morning. I have the ingredients to juice, I'm just not doing it. I have to workout in the morning and juice ain't cutting it. I tried holding my workouts off until later in the day, but it messes with my flow. For example, today we had a school delay so my workout hasn't gotten done yet. I dont' see my workouts as chores most days and want and crave that 45 minutes to myself...ahhhhh

Back to the point...I am keeping a "cleanse mentality" and following most all of the cleanse principles (1) juices/smoothies til noon; (2) vegan-duh; (3) gluten free; (4) no alcohol-duh; and (5) 60-80% fresh living shit on my plate at lunch and dinner.... whoa! yea! For about two days I felt like shit on toast and had a massive headache, but it's all good now.

About working out at home...There will be SO much more to come on this in about two weeks..but for now...suffice it say...I don't have a real preference, but I truly do love working out at home. I'm the opposite of most people. Most people believe that the gym is a godsend and working out at home is where you do "extra" stuff. NO NO NO. for me....working out at HOME is priority, and going to the gym is for extra stuff like a few machines whose movement I can't simulate at home (leg press, leg extension, hamstring curl--I can kinda do the last one, but not really at home). So, I decided to refocus on what I know works for ME. When I initially lost 70+ lbs, it was done at home. I didn't join the gym until I was about 50 lbs down. I liked it and still LOVE it, but honestly the travel time blows...putting shit in the locker...changing (during winter)....round and round on the same machine...ick.

With the cold winter winds and all that I need to accomplish in a few short hours when Kay's at school, I need to save as much time as I can. So, I've been working out at home. I promise to share more about it in a few weeks.

Well, I am off to get Kennedy from school and see if I can do a workout with her here. Wish me luck. The spring is around the corner. Can you feel it? I can! Let's get in gear. Last summer I was getting ready to walk my daughter through brain surgery. This year, I want to celebrate every day of spring and summer by being outside and vibrantly alive. If you aren't living up to your fullest potential...start today. Start dreaming about the life you want. The body you want. It's all yours! It's just waiting for you to claim it.

Crazy Sexy Day 2

Hey there!!!!!        Crazy Sexy Diet: Eat Your Veggies, Ignite Your Spark, and Live Like You Mean It!

Yesterday was blah...we were iced and snowed in and my "cleanse" was a bit off...shhh I was home with Kennedy playing games, dancing, and hanging out. I couldn't blog because I rather dance in my undies to the oldies. So here it goes...

The black writing is Ms. Carr's own words....the red writing is where I throw my few cents in!
"You did it! Day 1 is over and you are one step closer to liberation. What you leave out of your diet is as important as what you include. The healthiest diets have one thing in common. They toss crappy food. This diet and lifestyle is the Rolls-Royce, and you deserve an elegant ride."

FOCUS: Embrace yourself-literally. You may feel tired and cranky today. Yesterday you started what is a major shift in your life and health- but it likely brought up all sorts of physical and emotional pangs. That's okay! Stop what you are doing right now (well, after you read my directions), take in a very deep breath, and raise your hands to the heavens. Let your capable hands meet in a prayer. Stretch your God pod and while you swoop your lovely arms down exhale all the air out and hug yourself. As you embrace your majesty, say this out loud: 'I LOVE YOU (fill in your name).' Repeat three times.
The visual of Kennedy and I doing this was hilarious! Oh my....remember that you can do your mediation however works best for YOU. Yesterday I did my mediation in the bathtub. Just me and one lovely vanilla candle...

PRAYER: May I know in my heart that I am precious, worthy, and divine (aka very fabulous!). When I move from my own private divinity, whatever I do is enough.

AFFIRMATION: I love my thighs. My skin is beautiful. My organs are healthy and powerful.
I totally believe all of these! Yes yes yes! (btw say yes more today)

GOD POD MAINTENANCE: It doesn't matter what time of day you do it- just do it! Exercise for thirty-five minutes. There is no way out of this, so don't try to wiggle. Oh,, and how's the meditation going, dear one? Don't blow it off, okay? Who cares if your mind stages a mutiny? What matters is that you show up.
It's TOM...so my plan is to turn the radio on for 45 minutes and shake my ass with a green juice in one hand. Can't get to the gym??? Join me for a virtual dance party!

TIP: Plan meals ahead of time. It's a huge help! Though I'm not going to tell you what to eat every step of the way, that doesnt' mean you shouldn't strategize. Don't get caught with your dinner pants down, sister. Crack open your cookbooks, shop, and plot. Stack the odds for success in your favor.
Getting better about planning. I've always been a good planner, but now I am getting better and better. Plus I realized that keeping it simple and NOT overeating make it hella easy to plan.

Today I am feeling like relaxing and gathering myself. I have a great deal of school work to be done so I want to watch a movie this morning... Yummmmmm and then do some school work before dancing and running and errand or two before getting Kay....

See ya later with my menu!

Adventure Clease- Day 1- Crazy Sexy Diet Style

Here is just a sample of what Day 1 looks like in the book. I am sooooooooooooo amped!

"Ta da! It's Day 1 of the Tune-up. Your big task this week is to balance between pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and being gentle with yourself. There's no need to be in it to "win" it. Be in it to do better, feel better, to stretch your self-imposed limitations- that's more than enough. Today you will remove coffee completely. Yup, give it up. If you are still consuming animal flesh and airy, say so long. Since tush is a thing of the past (or at least it is for the next 21 days) it's time to add a vitamin B12 and B complex supplement to your diet. Gluten is out. The only way you'll know if you are sensitive is to boot it for now. refined sugars and processed carbs are way out. See ya!

FOCUS:
What you focus on for the next 21 days is extremely important. I want you to concentrate on the positive rather than the negative. Instead of "I didn't do it right, " I want you to think of all that you did accomplish. To do this, you really need to think about the language you use. We all talk to ourselves. Take stock of what you are saying and remember that your cells have ears! They're listening

PRAYER:
Please help me open my mind. Ignite my child-like curiosity and anything-is-possibly attitude. Tap me on the shoulder if I act like a cranky old bat. The voices that hold me back are thoroughly misinformed. Grant me the wisdom to release them now.

AFFIRMATION:
I am capable, confident, intelligent, resilient and in charge. Health and happiness are my birthrights and I accept with gratitude.

BREAKFAST (for me): Upon rising today I had a huge glass of lemon water with a pinch of cayenne. Followed by a quart of green smoothie. Spinach (tons), almond milk (store bought), spirilina, flaxseeds (ground) and 3-4 frozen bananas. I am going to do a workout in about 2 hours and carbed it up!

LUNCH: I will be making a huge salad with 1/2 an avocado and a simple tahini/lemon dressing with  Crazy Sexy Diet's Buddha Bowl with quinoa and broccoli.

SNACK: Green Juice. I wanted to have it this morning on my empty stomach, but it's a snow day, And we are all "off" in this house! As the days go on and I am allowed out of the house and the snow, I'll probably have carrots and hummus or guac n veggies.

DINNER: Same as lunch today. The goal is to have 60-80% salad and 20-40% of the Buddha Bowl
