Day 31: New Year's Eve!

It's the last day of 2012 and I have been reflecting on oh so much. This 31 day little challenge was so amazing I have put back into place so many things I'd lost sight of. :)


I only had 5 hours of sleep and got it this morning to take down the Christmas tree...clean all of that up...shovel snow for 1.5 hours and take down my inflatable Christmas decorations.

The snow shoveling burned a ton of calories, but I came back inside and did 35 minutes of strength circuits and plyos. I was a sweaty beast when I was done #beastmode.

Exercise today:
  • shoulder press
  • tricep extension
  • hammer curls
  • bicep curls
  • lat pulls
  • jump rope
  • jumping jacks
  • star jumps
Food today:
  • Green Smoothie: spinach, bananas, almond milk, chia seeds, grapes
  • Huge honeycrisp apple

Days 26, 27 and 28: 31 Days til 2013

The soreness has finally left my hamstrings. I didn't stop my workouts all this week though. I have been on a roll and feeling GOOOODDDD. This morning I only had about 37 minutes so I hit the ground running.

Fridays Back and Butt Workout:

Warmup: Jumprope as usual about 4 minutes
Circuits of Good Mornings, Deadlifts, Reverse lunges, Donkey kicks, Superwoman's, Bent over Row and jump rope between most sets. I was a sweaty mess and I loved it. Oh yea I did some burpees in there too. Yep. Sure did.

Post Workout Smoothie:
  • last of my spinach :(
  • almond milk
  • almond butter
  • 2 bananas
  • hempseeds
  • chia seeds
  • frozen pineapple
  • blend and devour
Lunch was boringish....: Bowl of quinoa, black beans, and steamed broccoli. wow....contain your enthusiasm

I've been keeping things ultra simple. Exercise simple. Diet simple. Stress low. The result is nothing short of miraculous. The simplicity is allowing me tons of time to focus on things I've been wanting to get done. Simple things, but important things.

Today I woke up early, took care of Kay's breakfast (daiya cheese grits and GF toast), worked out and have cleaned most all day. Washed my hair...waiting to straighten it now so that I can go out tonite** :) and going to balance bills in a bit.

It's so interesting what we can get done when we STOP focusing on bullshit taking our attention away from where it should be and START just doing all those things we know we should be.

Only a few days til 2013, but nothing is stopping you from getting started NOW. Let's go!

Days 19-25: 31 Days til 2013

Crazy busy doesn't even begin to describe how things have been around here. I have been making time for my workouts though! It's TOM (Merry Christmas to me rite?) but Santa was very good to Kennedy and brought her a limited edition Star Wars xbox and Kinect. We have been dancing all morning. Can we say cardio? :) I can totally see myself doing this when she is not here with a Jane Fonda workout suit on AND leg warmers...yes I have like 4 pair. lol.

I gave myself an early Christmas present and went to the gym with a good friend yesterday and did a killer lower body workout. My glutes are sore so that is a good thing. It is the old gym I used to go to. I was moderately nostalgic while there, but not so much that I want to rejoin. lol.

Today I am having simple meatloaf and steamed veggies and butternut squash soup that I made my last CSA delivery of the season. At some point when Kennedy goes with her father for a while I am going to do an upper body workout and possibly go to the movies.  Django Unchained. Not sure if it will keep me in a cheery holiday kinda mood.

My workout today although I am bloated like a cow will include
  • shoulder presses
  • tricep kickbacks
  • bicep curls
  • dips
  • pushups
I want to keep it simple, but to get it done! What are you doing to bring a Merry Fitness to yourself? You deserve a green smoothie (had one already) and red apple and move your body today!

This last week before the new year will find me cleaning and clearing...getting ready for my new job (yea more money!!!!) and in deep meditation and reflection. I have such a good feeling about 2013. Seriously. I hope that you do too. If not, time to break out the journal, or notepad on your smart fone and get to planning, daydreaming, wishing and hoping. Because THAT is how dreams come true :) Trust me I know ;)

Days 15, 16, 17 and 18: 31 Days til 2013

This week I am back on track with my exercise. I am not over doing it because I am so so so busy this week, but yesterday morning I woke up at 5:40 am to get my upper body circuit done. Today I woke up at the same time but I have application stuff to do so I can't take care of my workout until after work....which you all know I hate to do. Evening workouts are just NOT my thing, but I will keep the momentum going and get it done.

Kennedy is back in town from New Orleans, but terrible weather on the East Coast got her home at like 10 pm so no school today for her again :( Maybe I can sneak my workout in before I go and get her from her dad's this afternoon shhhhhhhh

I have been keeping my diet choices very simple lately. I am only 18 days into this 31 day healthy jump start and I feel better than I have in a long long time. Maybe because I am so focused or something I don't know. But if you are contemplating waiting until the holidays are over to get started on a healthy plan, I beg you to throw that "tomorrow" thinking right out of the window and get on the "NOW TRAIN".  There is always another valid reason or excuse not to get started, but I can assure you that if you just COMMIT your body and stomach will thank you long before January 1st rolls around.

I used to suffer from "perfect-itus". Everything had to be perfectly in order before I even attempted to do anything or get anything done. I have learned while growing older that not only does "perfect" not exist...the world doesn't wait for you. Time keeps passing. So with that said, I am so grateful for these 31 days that are leading up to the New Year. I will be so much farther along. Join me.

Typical Daily Set up:
  • Water first thing
  • Green smoothie: Typically spinach, almond milk, banana (2), frozen pineapple, or an apple/pear, flaxseeds, hempseeds, chia seeds blend add walnuts. (it's Winter. I'm cold. Loving the fat from the nuts)
  • Snack: Juice of some sort or a piece of fruit
  • Lunch: (biggest meal of my day right now) COOKED. Today will be lentils, quinoa, steamed broccoli, and a small salad with balsamic vinaigrette
  • Snack: fruit or juice
  • Dinner: Green smoothie like breakfast, but add dried figs 
Exercise Plan for this Week:
  • Monday- Upper body circuit (with cardio thrown in). 35 mins
  • Tuesday- Lower body circuit (with cardio thrown in). 30 mins
  • Wednesday- 1 hour cardio and abs
  • Thursday- Upper body circuit (with cardio thrown in)
  • Friday- Lower body circuit (with cardio thrown in)
  • Saturday- 1 hour cardio plus abs
  • Sunday- Yoga and rest
The last two weeks of this year will be crazy. I have lots of gifts to make. I'll make a separate post about that (the homemade gift giver) and I want to set myself up for success. If I say that I will do hours of exercise per day or juice every morning that is simply setting myself up for failure. My plan for the next two weeks will look JUST LIKE what is presented above. Days 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14: 31 Days til 2013

Okay life has been crazy busy and Kennedy went home to New Orleans with her father and WITHOUT me. It is a big Christmas and I could not afford a $400 ticket right now :-(

I have been 100% right on with my diet but this week I have barely exercised. No real sleep at night but I got in about 2 solid workouts. With Kennedy gone I can exercise everyone of the 4 days that she is away!

I am on my lunch break and have a meeting after a work but. I am going to get it done tonight! Speaking of at home workouts. My garage is a freezing dungeon! So I am putting a space heater right near my treadmill for about 15 mins on full blast! I will tell you how it goes. 

Haven't forgotten to do the pix of her race but if I keep waiting for time to make the "perfect post", it will never get done.

Today I had\am having:
*Green smoothie: spinach. Frozen pineapple. Almond milk. Figs (dried). Chia seeds. Hemp seeds. Bananas. Walnuts
*Lunch: meatloaf. Steamed brocolii. Butternut squash soup
*Snack: large honeycrisp apple (second fav)
*Dinner: Green smoothie: probably same as breakfast

Break is over. I'm HOPING that next week. Is a better fitness week than this one!

Days 7, 8, and 9: 31 Days til 2013

Oh my...the end of a crazy crazy week. Seriously. Crazy.

I haven't uploaded the pics yet, but Kay ran her first 5K yesterday. It was so amazing for me as a mom to be a part of it with her. I cried like a baby when it was over. She walked most of it, but it was at a speed walker's pace. It was also cold, rainy, and a very very hilly course. Now that that is over, I can start to slow down and breathe again. Hopefully this week's blogging can be more in depth.

My days have been pretty much the same food wise, but I finally feel back on track 100%. Lots of green smoothies, juice, and my supplements help with that well rounded feeling.

This week my exercise sorely lacked, but I was on my clean eating 100% and that felt great. Today Kay is with her dad for a bit so I made it to the gym (first time in months). There is nothing like pouring sweat...just nothing. It just clears my mind and helps me to get ready for the week.

Today I ate:
*Smoothie: spinach, pineapple, chia seeds, almond milk, spinach, banana and grapes. Walnuts
*Papapya salad (from Thai restaurant). quinoa and curried chickpeas
*Dinner will be green juice and a huge green smoothie with walnuts

I am hoping after my night of 11 hours of sleep I will be able to wake up on time tomorrow at 5:15 am so that I can workout before work. Here's hoping!

I'm off to finish cooking. It's been a few hours of making meatloaf, white beans, quinoa, sushi, drying oregano, and making butternut squash soup. This is to make my week go by much easier. I promise to have some pictures uploaded on here for tomorrow's post.

Off to finish cooking, and a run a few rainy errands before Kennedy comes home!

Day 6: 31 Days til 2013

Okay I am exhausted. I thought that today would bring me some peace...wishing it were Friday. But so grateful that it is Friday tomorrow. This has been the longest week EVER. And so cold it is bitter outside.

I am finished with all my applications except I have a few tiny odds and ends to check on. A huge weight has been lifted. Tremendously. It feels so good. Today was Kay's dad's bday so we celebrated with him and I ran around getting his things so I am still tired, but have no fear I will be getting rest tomorrow night for sure and all of this weekend if I can help it.

I have also been being more productive now that I have been eating better and getting myself in order. So I have been using my very short lunch time to get a few things done rather than leaving them until the weekend.

I ran out of bananas and it was such a disaster. Note to self: DO NOT make a kale smoothie without bananas. I went out in 25 degrees tonite and bought 12 lbs. That should get me through the weekend and week. Sad part is they are NOT ripe. Ugh..but I can assure you I will be throwing one in a smoothie tomorrow. I have some in the oven (typical of me) and some in a brown paper bag in the closet.

I am proud that during stressful days this week, I kept it all together. :) Go me!

Today I ate:

*31 days smoothie (no prunes)
*Lunch: Homemade veggie soup. Grapes. Quinoa and chickpeas with curry
*Snack: 2 pears and grapes
*Dinner: Smoothie: kale, grapes, almond milk, hempseeds....walnuts. It was hard to get this down.

GOOD NEWS!!! Even though I was exhausted I did turbo for 55 minutes! Go Jayna'! I am aiming to wake up at the crack of dawn and do a workout, but I am not sure if I will be able to get up. My soul is tired these days.

Days 4 and 5: 31 Days til 2013

Sorry that I couldn't post yesterday. My computer is dead and my mom got me a new one for Christmas!!! Thanks so much mom!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it love it. Up til midnight setting it up, etc. Still not done, but wanted to post this morning before going to work.

Yesterday no exercise. No challenge. Rough rough day at work and didn't get home until 8:30/9:00. I can't wait to get the rest of this application stuff done so that I can move on with my life.  This morning however,  I am going to attempt to do the challenge for the past two days and then do today's challenge tonight. I know I know....

Yesterday I ate:

*Breakfast: 31 Days Smoothie
*Lunch: Meatloaf. White beans and quinoa. Spinach salad and balsamic vingeratte. Grapes
*Dinner: 31 Days Smoothie

I ate a bit more, but can't remember right now. Sigh.

I have to run, but wanted to say if anyone is joining this challenge or just finding out about it....we have lots of days left until the New Year. Don't feel you need to wait until then to make lasting change!!!!

Day 3: 31 Days til 2013

No workout today and for good reason. I was soooo tired an cold at 5 when the alarm went off. Not normal "don't wanna get up tired" but "I am so tired I could cry" tired. I slept on and off until 6:40 and got up for the day.

Work was insane today and I now have a few new apps to do (surprise) and tonight I completed a HUGE app and it is 11 and I am just getting to bed. I was tempted to complete my swing/pushup challenge but it was all ego. My body is telling me to rest. To read to sleep.

Radical self-care...self-acceptance says do your very best. And today I worked hard all day, ran to Costco for my daughter's running group, had a meeting with her therapist, AND completed a major application! The challenge can wait and DOUBLE on tomorrow. Gasp. :)

Today I ate:

*Pint of green juice
*31 Day Smoothie
*Lunch: Spinach salad with balsamic vinegarette. Meatloaf. White beans and quinoa
*snack: Green juice and a pear
*Dinner: 31 Day Smoothie with 2 prunes and 1 cup of grapes that I ate when I was supposed to be bagging them up

Tomorrow I will definitely be making time for exercise even if it is at nighttime. Yawn.

Day 1: The Last 31 Days of 2012




My home computer committed suicide. She is dead. After 5 years with our family Suzie has gone on to another plane. Too bad she took my hard drive with her. :(. I have to get someone to pull it ($$$$$). About 80% is backed up but not itunes. Sigh

Anyway, I am going ovaries to the wall not "balls to the wall" lol for the last days of 2012.

Today I did 60 minutes of Turbo and ate my Last Days of 2012 Breakfast Smoothie
*1/4 c oats
*1 c almond milk
*1.5 bananas
*3 prunes
*spinach
*1 tbsp chai seeds
*1/4 c walnuts

Put the walnuts in after it is blended and only blend on pulse for about 3 seconds. That way you can chew the chunky bits!

Lunch: same smoothie
Snack: Fresh OJ and grapefruit juice
Dinner: Meatloaf. Roasted rosemary potatoes. Organic salsa and Mary's Gone Crackers chips. Today was the last of those. I ate the rest before they went stale. I don't want to consume anything overly processed during these 31 days. But I don't have money to waste so I ate em.

My workout plans include 100% at home workouts. No time for the gym at all :( but I have always said I rather workout here at home. And as Kay gets older, it gets easier in here with her.

I only have one app hanging over my head and some checking in with other applications to do so wish me luck please.

I set up a projected hopeful weight loss and fitness schedule for the next 31 days. I know it will be challenging to get up at 5 am in the pitch black and freezing cold house, but I have what it takes to make it happen.
